How the Forge Came About

Run by and for the community, The Forge  consists of three complementary elements (some of which are still ‘work in progress’) :

Community Shop

Offering a useful and desirable range of food and grocery products
Everyday essentials for top-up/convenience shopping
A range of fresh produce and deli-type products
Specialising in local produce where possible
Some newspapers, magazines and stamps etc
Related services such as prescriptions drop-off/collection, dry cleaning (when we can organise it!)

Do let us know if you can’t find what you are looking for. We can’t stock everything but we value ideas and suggestions.

Café

For both villagers and visitors alike. Serving great coffee, cake, sandwiches and rolls etc,  plus  light lunches, snacks & take-away – using locally sourced produce as far as possible
Including WiFi complimentary access

Information Centre

With interpretation materials, leaflets, etc about the Slindon estate and the wider South Downs National Park.

The project is run as a not-for-profit community initiative, organised as a Co-operative and Community Benefit Society, who hold the lease with the freeholder, The National Trust. Community co-operation in running the project (via membership, volunteering and a community share scheme) is a key element of the project.
